Stainless Steel
Stainless steel has been used for decades for a number of applications that include everything from pots and pans to medical equipment. Although stainless steel is already incredibly popular, companies like Resistaloy work hard to constantly improve upon the stainless steel tubing technology.
Difference Between Stainless Steel and Galvanized Steel
Steel, in general, is a combination of iron alloys that are melted together and re-formed in order to form a stronger and more reliable metal. Galvanized steel is coated in zinc by one of several methods in order to prevent rust and corrosion. Stainless steel and stainless steel tubing, on the other hand, are created by adding a mixture of 10.5 percent chromium to the molten iron alloy before cooling and forming the steel. Once formed and cooled, stainless steel undergoes a few more processes to smooth the finish and provide additional resistance from the elements. To form stainless steel tubing, thin sheets of the steel are rolled and welded until a strong, unbreakable bond is formed.
Properties of Stainless Steel and Stainless Steel Tubing
There are many properties that make stainless steel and stainless steel pipe a popular choice in many home and industrial settings. For instance, stainless steel keeps its integrity very well. This means that stainless steel pipe can be used to transport very hot or very cold water from one location to another without getting weak or brittle over time. This material is also popular because it does not react to materials that it comes into contact with. For this reason, stainless steel pipe is often the top choice for transporting cleaning products and other chemicals—including salt water—from location to location.
Commercial Uses
Stainless steel tubing is a very common part of many industrial settings due to its strength and versatility. Since it does not react to other materials, it is often used in foundries that require the transport of harsh chemicals or even extremely hot or cold liquids. Stainless steel pipe is used to carry sanitation chemicals in industrial dishwashers that can be found in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes all over the world. Many industrial kilns and furnaces are constructed from it because it will not get weaker or more brittle when exposed to heat. Stainless steel pipe is also used in commercial refrigeration settings for the transport of coolant or water.
Household Uses
Stainless steel is found all over the home, but is primarily known for its use in popular cookware. It conducts heat evenly, which makes it a great choice for all kinds of pots and pans. Stainless steel tubing can be found in household refrigerators and air conditioners carrying water through the cooling cycle, and in some instances is used for piping gas into the home from outdoors. Although it is used for transporting potable water in some instances, copper or PVC piping has gained popularity since it does conduct heat as easily and does not get as warm or cool to the touch.
Stainless steel and stainless steel pipe are very important components of both the industrial and household world. There is no other material that is capable of performing the same duties as stainless steel.
